The Great Awakening
Images of what we were float through my mind,
innocent times sweet tender times
new experiences, sensations never felt before,
sights and sound new to my senses.
You think about the dawn a-breaking and the coming light
remembering how you held back the tears in the darkness of the night
knowing that someday our love will disappear
looking into my eye remembering your worst fears
as you wait by the telephone for that one last call
hoping for it to come, you would give anything at all
and it never came as you cry yourself to sleep
waiting in the dark all alone
but that great awakening, life has begun
the beauty of nature is before your eyes
open your eyes to see the sun as it shine
leaving what is left to the memories left behind
you sit in the dark you're crying on your bed
hand trembling in fear, they are clutching your head
loneliness prevails and the sadness reins
the inner peace is shattered and nothing remains
and all you once knew is a memory now
you're all alone now and you just don't know how
to put back the pieces together again
to try to find a way from keeping this from an end
and the dawns a-breaking and a new day is beginning
you are searching for the hidden answer to go on living
as the light filters in through the window blinds
doing little dances in a strange kind of way
and it holds your fascination for such a long time
playing games in your mind
but that great awakening, life has begun
the beauty of nature is before your eyes
open your eyes to see the sun as it shine
leaving what is left to the memories left behind
plastic imitations of what you thought was real
you’ve lost your compassion, but still you think you feel
all the sensations from so long ago
as you stand and watch the sand flow
the essence of life you were never taught
you've never been shown the beauty the world as to offer
what only mattered is what could be bought
you've only read the writing on the wall
but that great awakening, life has begun
the beauty of nature is before your eyes
open your eyes to see the sun as it shine
leaving what is left to the memories left behind
daylight comes and your heart still aches
you were the girl who had all the breaks
crying in your bed, that’s all that’s left
as time moves forward all the time
