          No laughs or jokes

Only a long lonely road ahead

The thrill of yesteryear, companions of old

          Past dreams no longer in existence

Striving ahead for what?

A better life? 

 or a new and more advanced way of seeing our dreamlike realities

Endless moments full of momentary excitement

Friends old, friends new

          Invaders all the same

Meadows of plenty

          Meadows of sorrow

Fields full of life

          Pastures (reeking) of death

Lingering scents

          Oh how wonderful they are

Remembrances brought back to life

          Nightmares relived

Dreams and hopes

          a whole life to fulfill

a new regime,

          promises ahead

Peering at an unknown face

          A transitory figure

A separate life sharing for a moment a casual glance

A notice of recognition

          I exist

Does she really care?
